Helpful Addons for Rift Leveling

Goldum, Level 12, showing off his in-game Addons list
Hello everybody and welcome to Level The Gaming Field's "Level Up: Rift" Gaming and Leveling Guide. Throughout the length of this blog you will notice we don't play the game for you. We won't tell you exactly how to play, or exactly what you should be doing at a certain time. We believe one of the key aspects that make Massive Multiplayer Online games so attracting and exciting, is the full immersion and customization you can personally put into each of your characters. Rather, we show you a path towards greatest for every level, a path you can loosely follow and still become the master of all trades while preserving the personal touch you put into all your characters.

With the technicalities aside, we're going to start off the Rift Leveling Guide with a list and short description of a few addons that we believe will optimize your playing experience while marching through those routine low levels towards end game content. We use Curse's client software "CurseClient" to find, research, and chose the addons we use in all of our MMOs, and Curse supports 13 games worth of addons, all of which will never cost you a penny. You can even use the CurseClient as a launcher for all your game start ups in one convenient place. Visit (curse.com) for a full list of addons, or download the latest version of CurseClient at (curse.com/client). Above you'll find an in-game listing of the addons we believe you'll find most helpful in your leveling experience. Starting with the less useful, ending with the most useful:

Easy Mail - Easy Mail is a replacement to the traditional Mailbox system, which replaces your mailbox UI with a more straightforward design. It allows you to withdraw all items pending in letters, delete all contents of your mailbox at once, send multiple letters at once, and enables group mailing. Though it isn't vital to your gameplay, Easymail is an essential to gamers who enjoy using the in-game mailing system.

Money Bar - Moneybar is an additional toolbar that you can fit to the top, bottom, or sides of your playing screen. Though the customization stand-point is a bit difficult to new players, typing "/moneybar help" in your chat box will bring up detailed instructions on how to get the most from your Moneybar Toolbar. Displayable currencies include: Planarite, Sourcestone, Favor, Credits, Platinum, Void Stones, Lucky Coins, etc.

Quest Finder - Quest Finder is a UI system that allows players to check uncompleted quests, carnage quests, open instances/rifts, and important story quests in your area. Though Quest Finder is most useful at max level, while you go back through Telera to knock out any quests you left out, it is also useful in the sense of total zone completion while questing. Before we leave a zone, we type the line "/qfind" into our chat box to see if we passed up any important quests, or if we missed one of the sneaky carnage quests.

Raredar - Raredar is a clever and convenient addon with a small HUD interface. It's appears on your screen as a red radar, and whenever you wonder too close to a rare mob, the Raredar alerts you via chat, and the radar turns green. All you have to do is click on the radar and if you are within targeting range you will automatically target the rare. We recommend enabling your "Show Targets on Minimap" option in the Interface tab of your Settings menu, so that whenever Raredar picks up and targets the mob, you'll see it's location displayed on the minimap. Raredar is also helpful by listing all rare mobs found in your area, you can find this list by simply right clicking on the radar.

RiftMeter - Much like World of Warcraft's "Recount" addon, RiftMeter is a combat tracking addon that displays a variety of combat statistics in a small, resizable window. RiftMeter is extremely useful in Instant Adventures, Rifts, and Warfronts, but also holds its value in general questing due to it's ability to track the progress your character makes throughout the levels. If you're pulling 105 DPS at level 12, but only 90 at level 15, you should rethink your combat rotation. (See "Combat Rotation").

RiftActionBars - The final and most useful addon we found is RiftActionBars. Even though it's a very lightweight, simple addon, it's purpose is extremely useful in every walk of Rift. Whether your low level, high level, PvP or PvE, you'll find a use for RiftActionBars. To put it plainly, it adds a timed countdown display over your current toolbar spells and abilities, showing how long of a cooldown each ability has left. Players have the choice to customize font size, style, and color. RiftActionBars UI is simple, but at times it can be frustrating. For correctly timed cooldowns, players have the drag and drop the exact abilities and the order in which they fall on your action bar, from Slot 1 to Slot 12, inside the user interface menu. It seems easy enough at first, but this means every time you reorder or add a new spell to your toolbar, you're finding yourself back in the user interface menu to change your Slots once again. If you can overlook this necessary but small flaw in the system, you'll find out just how useful RiftActionBars really are.

We hope this Addon Leveling Guide helps you make early decisions on which addons to download and install to optimize your Rift experience, be sure to keep checking in on Level The Gaming Field for more Leveling Guides, Tips, and Tricks. Happy Hunting!
